Rule of Law

Dr. Georges is from Marmarita in Syria. He completed his studies at the Faculty of Law at Damascus University. He also has a master’s in international and European studies and a doctorate in international law and human rights law from the University of Grenoble in France. He currently works as a researcher in the field of human rights and inter-religious dialogue at the University of Geneva.

Economic Development

Dr. Kadi is the executive director of the Economic Bureau of the Syrian National Council, the general coordinator for the Syrian Economic Task Force in Germany and the UAE and the president of the Syrian Canadian Council. He is also an economic consultant for the Syrian International Business Forum in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Kadi worked in Syria as an economic consultant for the Syrian Agency of Combating Unemployment. He also worked as an economic consultant to the United Nations Development Programme in Syria, writing about Syrian development trajectories to 2025.

Telecommunications

Mr. Atassi, President of Doraltech, Inc, has held a number of senior positions with the telecommunications industry, including vice president of multiple divisions within Nortel Networks in the US, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. Mr. Atassi holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering as well as a master’s in business administration, both from the University of Miami. He is fluent in Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and English.

Water and Agricultural Policy

Dr. El-Fattal is a development expert specialising in public policy, rural development, agriculture and natural resource management, with a focus on water. She has a bachelor's from Oxford University, a master's from the American University of Beirut and a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware. She previously worked with the International Development Research Centre in Canada as a senior programme specialist. She has also worked for the USAID-funded Agriculture Policy Reform Programme, for Abt Associates on assignments including supporting rural women's income-generating activities in the Middle East and with the Cairo Regional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN. In October 1991, Dr. El-Fattal was awarded a McNamara Post Doctoral Fellowship from the World Bank.

Health System Reform

Dr. Kassas completed his medical degree at Damascus University school of medicine and trained in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology in the United States. He is the founder and director of the cardiovascular stem cell therapy program, Michigan Cardiovascular Institute and practices interventional cardiology at Michigan Cardiovascular Institute where he serves as the catheterisation laboratory director. Dr. Kassas is also founder and director of the cardiovascular stem cell therapy programme at Michigan Cardiovascular Institute. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Kassas has an interest in clinical cardiovascular research and has participated as a principal investigator in many trials.

Education System Reform

Dr. Dayyani is an Associate Professor and Director of the Center For Applied Software Engineering, Oman. He is a leader, professional, executive, teacher and scientist with 30 years of industry, academic and management experience in Silicon Valley, California. He specialises in innovation and in building startup technology companies.

Energy Sector

Mr. Ghazal is an expert in energy policy and economics with a masters in engineering from Ecole Centrale de Paris and a masters in economics from Columbia University. He has worked as both an engineer and business manager for oil companies, banks, and research centres in the Gulf, Egypt and Syria. Mr. Ghazal was most recently an energy analyst and project consultant based in Aleppo. He worked in senior engineering and managerial positions for Shell, Total and Schlumberger in Syria and GCC countries and is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
